{"id":390,"date":"2019-06-12T07:34:25","date_gmt":"2019-06-12T14:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmportland.com\/HariPatrika2019\/?p=390"},"modified":"2019-06-15T15:36:05","modified_gmt":"2019-06-15T22:36:05","slug":"yato-dharma-tato-jaya-8th-grade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmportland.org\/HariPatrika2019\/yato-dharma-tato-jaya-8th-grade\/","title":{"rendered":"Yato Dharma Tato Jaya &#8211; 8th Grade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Aparna Easwar, Raj Sistla, Sushil Nema<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmportland.com\/HariPatrika2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/HP_2019_8th_Grade.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-691\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmportland.com\/HariPatrika2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/HP_2019_8th_Grade-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cmportland.org\/HariPatrika2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/HP_2019_8th_Grade-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cmportland.org\/HariPatrika2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/HP_2019_8th_Grade-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cmportland.org\/HariPatrika2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/HP_2019_8th_Grade-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cmportland.org\/HariPatrika2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/HP_2019_8th_Grade-1200x798.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>8th Grade 2018-19 <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The theme of the Bala Vihar for 8th grade is<\/span><b> Yato Dharmah Tato Jayah <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Where there is Dharma, there is Victory). \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our wonderful students: \u00a0Dhvani, Anika, Sitara, Idika, Kumkum, Annika, Sagarika, Nividh, Suhas, Jayant, Rahul, Tej, Manas, Rohan, Aditi, Arshia, Arya, Sudarshan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We started off the year with a discussion on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the law of Karma. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We spent a good portion of the 8th grade curriculum reading \u00a0&amp; discussing the Mahabharata, which chronicles the story of the Pandavas, the Kauravas, their elders &amp; relatives, and of course Lord Krishna. \u00a0The Mahabharata is the longest epic in the world and is several thousand years old. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dharma <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in action, and references to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dharma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are conspicuous in almost every chapter of the Mahabharata and it was a great experience to analyze the motives, the choices made and the consequences experienced, by the characters in the Mahabharata. \u00a0\u00a0We are grateful to the version of C. Rajagopalachari&#8217;s translation of the Mahabharata which we used in this class. The students had lots of interesting observations, questions &amp; debates along the way. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A wonderful episode in the Mahabharata is the &#8220;Yaksha Prashna&#8221; &#8211; a morality filled questions &amp; answer dialogue between Yudhishthira and a Yaksha. \u00a0As a class we spent a good deal of time discussing this thought provoking Q&amp;A. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the backdrop of the Mahabharata story, the class then discussed what <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dharma <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is, and how to live by our Dharma. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We then discussed the ten values of<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sanatana Dharma <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as laid down by Manu, the facts of life and the roadmap to success. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then we capped off the year with a module on &#8220;How to be a darling of Krishna&#8221; by living the values of &#8220;Thirty Five Gems&#8221; from Chapter 12 of the Bhagavad Gita. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh..along the way, the class also had the opportunity to :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cook over a hundred meals for the Transitions homeless shelter \u00a0(way to go, class!). <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Break new ground and fall in love with the concept of &#8220;Bala Vihar homework&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>-Raj Sistla &amp; Aparna Eswar<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aparna Easwar, Raj Sistla, Sushil Nema 8th Grade 2018-19 The theme of the Bala Vihar for 8th grade is Yato Dharmah Tato Jayah (Where there is Dharma, there is Victory). \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Our wonderful students: \u00a0Dhvani, Anika, Sitara, Idika, Kumkum, Annika, Sagarika, Nividh, Suhas, Jayant, Rahul, Tej, Manas, Rohan, Aditi, Arshia, Arya, Sudarshan.
