Learnings from Bala Vihar – Shruti Seshasayee

Bala Patrika

Shruti Seshasayee, 8th Grade

Bala Vihar has taught me about my culture, respect, and hard work. Throughout my years attending Chinmaya Mission, I have also gained new experiences and opportunities, such as cooking for the homeless, volunteering, vedic chanting and more. As a strong community, Bala Vihar educates and supports students and families. I have learned about Ramayana, the Hanuman Chalisa, symbolism in our culture, history and geography of India, the Mahabharata and much more, through stories, lessons, videos, and talks.
Every Sunday after class, I look forward to a delicious lunch prepared by volunteers. In addition, once a year each grade can also cook as a class, and offer a meal to the rest of our Bala Vihar community.
I also enjoy the festivals and celebrations organized by Chinmaya Mission, my favorites consisting of Holi and Diwali. Holi is celebrated at a park, and friends and family outside of Chinmaya mission are welcome to join in. There is delicious food, music, and colors making it such a fun experience. Diwali is enjoyed with a special meal followed by a variety of fireworks outside.
Bala Vihar has taught me so much and inspired me as a person. Through festivals, events, and classes, our community comes together to enjoy and appreciate our culture. I am looking forward to continuing coming to Chinmaya Mission for years to come.
