My experiences with Chinmaya Portland – Rajiv Bharadwaj

Bala Patrika

Rajiv Bharadwaj, 6th Grade

I am a sixth grader at Catlin Gabel School. Today I am going to share my experience about being in Chinmaya Mission. I have been at Chinmaya mission since I was a young preschooler and I have learned a lot of interesting things here like the story of the Ramayana, how Ravaan, the demon king of Lanka, had kidnapped Sita, Ram’s wife, and how Ram, the eldest prince of the great city of Ayodhya, must rescue his beloved and put an end to all evil. I learned about this in first grade when I was 7 years old. I have also learned about the great saint Ramana Maharshi and how he taught his students while being completely silent. I learned about this just recently in 6th grade and I am 12 right now.

I have also made a lot of friends along the way and have made a lot of memories with them including interacting with them in class, talking to each other while eating lunch from Shadras kitchen, and playing with each other after all our classes and after lunch. I especially love playing Foosball with my friends. It’s really fun.

Finally, I have learned the daily practice of praying to our beloved hindu gods. I do this through my Sandya Vandanam which is a religious practice praising goddess Gayatri, the wife of Lord Brahma who is believed to be the creator of the universe. We also pray while we are at Chinmaya mission every Sunday. We do this by saying some slokas (prayers) praising different Hindu gods like Ganesha, Krishna, Vishnu, Laxmi. We also praise or pray to some Hindu saints as well, like Adi Shankara, the reviver of Hinduism, and Swami Chinmayananda, the founder of Chinmaya Mission. Anyway I hope you enjoyed my paper for the Hari Pratika. Thank you for Reading.
