I enjoy going to Chinmaya because I get to learn so much about Indian and Hindu culture. From the festivities on the holidays to the Balavihar classes; my eyes are opened to so many different aspects of the Hindu religion.
This year, Chinmaya held festivities for many holidays such as Maha Shivratri, Navratri, and Onam. Though these were all very enjoyable and the food was delectable; my favorite by far was Holi.
Chinmaya’s Holi celebration was held at Pariwar Park and was open to the public. Near the play structure area, Chinmaya volunteers were selling yummy chaat and other snack items. Past this area, from a small, elevated portion of the grass, you can see the crowd of people, colored powder floating over their heads in a cloud, and loud Bollywood music booming through the speakers on the far left side. It truly is a sight. A sight that you cannot just stand and enjoy because you must join the fun!
But my favorite part of this festival was not just the festivities. I enjoyed seeing all of the different people coming to celebrate. There were people from different walks of life and different races. In a society like today, where there is so much discrimination, it was nice to see so many different types of people joining together to celebrate a festival.
Overall, this Holi festival was very memorable for me and worth every drop of my colored shower later that day.
