\"\"<\/a>When my family and I went to the airport to pick up Swami Ishwarananda ji, we couldn’t find him at first, even though most of the passengers had already gotten off the plane. We noticed a gentleman in an orange tracksuit, but we ignored him because he didn\u2019t look like how we imagined a Swamiji would be dressed. In our minds, a Swamiji wore a veshti, had vibuthi on his forehead, and looked more traditional. My mom and I had no idea it was him until he came up and introduced himself! That moment taught me that not all Swamiji’s look the same.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> Swami Ishwarananda ji was also really funny and made a lot of jokes on the way home. I was surprised at how relaxed and laid back someone of his spiritual caliber could be. In movies, Swamijis are usually shown as very quiet and strict, but he was way cooler.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Swamiji is also a really good hiker. He joined CM Portland\u2019s Hanuman Hikers group and hiked with us to Beacon Rock trail. I understood the importance of being with nature and to be fit like him. He overall lifted my whole family\u2019s mood while he was with us. From starting the day with healthy breakfast to massaging his feet at night, his satsanga was enriching. I don\u2019t know how someone can be so positive with such a simple life; but I am always learning. I want to be as positive as Swamiji someday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Swami Ishwarananda ji made a huge impact on me during his visit to our home. He taught me to be more calm and composed, whether I’m at school or doing my homework. Before, I used to get into a lot of verbal altercations. But now, if someone tries to trigger me, I just ignore them\u2014because I know karma will take care of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Swami Ishwarananda ji advised me to limit my video game time to just 30 minutes a day. That sounded impossible to me at the time, so I decided to take on a big challenge: a one-month screen detox. It was tough at first, but once I completed it, I felt really proud of myself. Now, I don\u2019t constantly think about video games and have even picked up some new hobbies and skills. It made me better at ping pong, learn lawn mowing and pressure washing skills. I also read more books and hike more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Staying calm has also helped me improve my grades. Before, I would sometimes blank out on tests, even though I knew the material, just because I got too nervous. Now, I take three deep breaths before I start, and it really helps me focus and do better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I thank Chinmaya mission portland for helping me host Swamiji and hope I can host him next time he comes to portland. I also want the chance to visit ChinmayaLA to experience him there.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
