The Call of “My Kanhaiya” – Raji Chandra

Footsteps of Vedanta

Raji Chandra

Feeling the sweet weight of my longing,
I wandered to the banks of the holy river.
Ripples danced to the rhythm of the breeze,
And the fragrance of wildflowers filled the air.

The peacock’s cry echoed through the woods,
Calling for its distant mate,
And a soothing peace enwrapped my heart.

Then, carried by the tender wind,
Came a melody — gentle, haunting, divine.
Something deep within me stirred…
A forgotten memory awakened.

Following the sound, I drifted through the trees,
My anklets chiming like whispers of hope.
But alas, the music began to fade —
And my heart sank into silence.

I sat beneath a shaded tree,
Tears shimmering like pearls of surrender.
And suddenly — from behind that very tree —
Flowed the same soul-stirring melody again.

There He stood — dark as a raincloud,
Eyes shining with playful grace,
A smile that stilled my breath,
And a flute that spoke to my very soul.

In that sacred moment, time dissolved —
And lifetimes of love awakened within me.
For before me stood my eternal Kanhaiya,
The music, the memory, the Beloved — all one.

Author’s Note: This poem reflects the journey from seeking the Divine in sacred places to realizing His presence everywhere — within the heart, within nature, and within the quiet moments of everyday life. The flute of Kanhaiya becomes a symbol of that eternal call guiding the soul gently back toward remembrance and love, when you surrender.
